Harvard's Department of Human Evolutionary Biology

The Department of Human Evolutionary Biology (HEB) at Harvard are actively seeking to expand and diversify our pool of graduate student applicants. Our department is virtually unique in being built around a question, "What makes us human," and pursuing this from an evolutionary perspective using the full range of tools available from across the biological, social and medical sciences.

The University of Washington's Department of Pharmacology

The University of Washington's Department of Pharmacology is pleased to announce acceptance of applications to the PhD program for Autumn 2021-22. The UW Pharmacology department hosts a diverse field of research areas including neurobiology, biochemistry, structural biology and genetics/gene architecture. This year we will be holding 2 virtual informational events to provide more information to prospective students about our graduate program, department, and the admissions process. Our virtual events will be held on October 15th and November 5th. Please click link to participate and learn more.

Univ. of Illinois recruiting PhD students in Molecular & Cellular Biology

At the University of Illinois School of Molecular and Cellular Biology, PhD students are at the forefront of life-changing biomedical research. MCB scientists are combatting infectious diseases like the novel coronavirus and influenza. We are uncovering insights into neurological and metabolic disorders, such as epilepsy and diabetes. The University of Illinois is known around the world for its bold, creative, and collaborative work. Graduate students are an integral part of that tradition of excellence.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

An extraordinary academic institution at one of the world's premier research and treatment centers for pediatric cancer and childhood disease. A degree from the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is like no other. The program is unique in that it is designed for students who have demonstrated research potential in their undergrad to complete their PhD in 4-5 years with a heavy translational component that puts a human face on the coursework - we will be pairing each student with a clinician so that they can follow St. Jude patients throughout their first year. We can also accommodate students who are interested in an MD/PhD pathway. Most importantly, our application is free and we don’t require GRE score

IRES: Summer Biology Research Program in Japan

IRES: Summer Biology Research Program in Japan

Research focus:  Novel Genetic Elements Regulating Behavior of Medaka and Zebrafish.

This grant-funded international research program allows students to engage in scientific collaborations at top biology institutes in Japan.

Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF Project #1952513), this 10-week summer program (including nine weeks in Japan) will provide students with invaluable research and intercultural experiences while working with an international team of biologists on CRISPR-Cas9 techniques generating transgenic fish to study genetic elements regulating  behavior.

The application period for the Summer 2021 program will be from October 21, 2020 to January 15, 2021. For Summer 2021 the program will run from May 17 to July 23 with time in Japan from May 21 to July 23.

Behavioral and Evolutionary Neuroscience at Cornell University

Faculty in the BEN area seek to understand the brain mechanisms of  behavior and cognition, including sensation and perception, communication, social behavior, and learning and memory. We emphasize comparative, developmental and evolutionary approaches to understanding animal behavior and its construction by neural systems. Core questions include: How do neural circuits represent information and generate behavior? How do social, developmental and situational factors influence cognition, behavior, and the neural systems that underlie them? What are the mechanisms (neural, genetic, endocrine, and behavioral) that enable animals (including humans) to produce behavior that is appropriate for their ecological context?
